Lamprell, based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and with operations throughout the region, has played a prominent role in the development of the energy industry in the Middle East for over 35 years and is the regional market leader in the rig construction business. Lamprell is a leading provider of diversified engineering and contracting services to the onshore and offshore oil & gas and renewable energy industries and since its IPO in 2006 it has established leading market positions in the construction of shallow-water drilling jackup rigs, liftboats, land rigs and rig refurbishment, as well as an international reputation for complex process modules and topsides.
Lamprell employs approximately 10,000 people across multiple facilities, with its primary facilities located in Hamriyah, Sharjah and Jebel Ali, all of which are in the UAE. In addition, the Group has facilities in Saudi Arabia (through a joint venture agreement) and Kuwait. Combined, the Group’s facilities cover approximately 910,000 m2 with 2.2 km of quayside.
Lamprell’s business started in 1976 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) when members of the Lamprell family moved to Dubai. For the first two decades the company focused on small offshore energy sector projects ranging from repair and modification of drilling rigs, accommodation modules and land camps to the overhaul of cranes, winches and other rig machinery. Lamprell commenced its first accommodation jack-up rig conversion in 1989 and the refurbishment of its first jack-up drilling rig in 1992.
The Company continued to focus its efforts on the jackup rig refurbishment market, growing into one of the world’s leading rig repair yards. Diversification into the new build construction market for the offshore oil and gas sector commenced in the year 2000, with the fabrication of a number of complex topsides process modules and turret assemblies for several high-profile FPSO projects, resulting in the opening of a custom built fabrication facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in 2002.
With continued successful operation in both Sharjah and Jebel Ali facilities, which saw huge company growth, Lamprell made a successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the London AIM in 2006 and a final move was made to the UKLA official list of the London Stock Exchange in 2008.
In 2007, Lamprell combined its jackup rig expertise and new build offshore experience into the renewable energy sector with awards for the construction of self-propelled, self-elevating, dynamically positioned lift boats and wind farm installation vessels, alongside the first awards to construct new build jack up drilling rigs. This increased product offering required Lamprell to further expand its fabrication facilities and in 2011 the company opened another custom built facility, this time in Hamriyah Free Zone and also undertook the acquisition of local fabrication yard Maritime Industrial Services (MIS). To date more than 20 new build jackup rig projects have been successfully delivered.
Lamprell’s reputation was again further enhanced in 2013/2014, with the safe and on-time delivery of its first three North Sea topsides projects.
Today, with head offices in Dubai, several bases of operation in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, and approximately 9,000 employees, Lamprell has clearly established itself as one of the world’s leading construction yards servicing the oil and gas and renewables industry.Products Exported to: nited Arab Emirates
